On April 15, 2007 SSGT Scott Lilley was hit by a piece of shrapnel while manning the gun of a humvee on a road his military buddies hilariously called “IED Alley.” The hot piece of metal entered his skull just under his left temple, and that changed his life forever.

Aug 2, 2018After April will captivate you from beginning to end. It is vivid, detailed, and provides a real picture of war and the battles that our brave men and women confront on a daily basis. I love Scott’s story as it tracks with him from the beginning, including his desire to serve his country, on through his battle experiences, and then through his recovery and daily struggles. Two things that are most striking about this book is the genuine love which exudes from his family, in particular, his parents, Jolene and Frank, who are by Scott’s side from the beginning of his struggle. Second, the level of faith and dependence on God is evident throughout the book – there are so many amazing God-sightings taking place. I can’t recommend this book enough. Despite the tough times, I’m confident you will put down the book with a sense of optimism.
Jul 24, 2018I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Lilly family. After reading After April, I appreciate and admire them more than ever. What a beautiful example of living their faith. The entire family rallied around Scott, Jolene and Frank as they walked their journey and that exemplifies the beauty of a close-knit family. Scott's determination was only matched by the dedication and determination of his family. I was especially touched by God's design and plan in having sweet Margaret Rodriguez already in Germany when Scott arrived. Knowing they would need support, our precious Lord already had that covered. This book is beautifully written and serves as a reminder of what God can do. Thank you for sharing your story.
Apr 3, 2017After April by Eva McCollaum, is a touching story of Staff Sgt. Scott Lilley and his heroic recovery from a brain injury. This inspiring story teaches us the power of love and true understanding of faith. The Lilley family shared their journey as they had to face many challenges. Scott's perseverance was amazing and we are so glad they have shared their story. Thank you Staff Sgt. Lilley for your service to our country and the inspiration to never give up.
Mar 23, 2017An amazing story of hope and faith. Frank and Jolene are examples of how ordinary people can survive and overcome extraordinary events in their lives. Scott's battle to overcome his injuries are very inspirational and reinforces my belief in our creator and in prayer. This is a must read for anyone who needs a boost in faith and who needs to take some time away from the negativity of today's world and feel refreshed by the faith, hope, and love exhibited by the Lilley family during a most challenging time in their lives. I am especially inspired by the fact that Frank and Jolene are donating any profits from the sale of the book are donated to various wounded warrior organizations around the country! My prayers continue for Scott, a true hero, as he continues his journey to recovery and a life of promise.
Mar 6, 2017"After April" is truly a gift that has been given to all of us by Frank and Jolene Lilley and the Lilley family. It is the story of the journey of Staff Sgt. Scott Lilley after he suffered a traumatic brain injury on 15 April 2007 when his Humvee was hit by a roadside bomb in Iraq. But it is more than that! Obviously it is a story of tragedy and suffering and reminds us of the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform that give so much to keep America safe. Ultimately, however, it is a story of faith and perseverance in the face of adversity. It is a story of the love, support and sacrifice of family. It is a story of the power of prayer and an unswerving belief in our Creator. It is a story of hope, compassion, giving, strength, laughter, and tears. Finally, it is a story of VICTORY! Read this book about an amazing young man, an amazing journey, and an amazing family. You will not regret it!
