This book is an act of bravery. It is a refreshingly straightforward account of a young man seeking freedom from middle class norms finding himself surrendering relationships, conscience, and basic human needs to the power of drugs. There is a remarkable honesty in this book that demonstrates that we are all capable of committing terrible acts; but that we are also capable of loving, being loved, and having the courage to survive in the face of a brutal addiction. I highly recommend this book.

A fascinating look into the mind of an addict. It's not often we get a chance to read the first person voice/thoughts of one dealing with addictions and the crazy world that surrounds them. As one might anticipate, the book shares an intriguing world of dramatic experiences, self destructive tendencies, and (or at times lack of) associated personal insights... I thought the book was intriguing, entertaining, and at times uncomfortable. It prodded me to ponder life from a bigger perspective and gave insights into the life choices and thinking of an addict. I highly recommend.

Thirty Three Years to Conception follows the life of a young man from his privileged beginnings to life on the streets of Toronto. Daniel Pollock could be anyone's son, brother or friend. His voice from the street echoes through the alleyways of every major Western city. This book is a must-read for parents, mental health professionals, doctors, teachers, students and anyone who touches the lives of our children and youth.
