MY LIFE WITH ALPHONSE Living with HIV
Paperback, 230 Pages

In September 2007, I will be HIV positive for 24 years. My life so far, has been varied, exciting, frustrating, sad, happy, interesting, boring, promising, and disappointing – and so what? Isn’t that how everyone’s life is? Why should mine be any different just because I carry a deadly virus? I have stayed alive because I have taken care of myself – although I have pushed the boundaries many times – and I have always been responsible about my situation. I do not blame anyone and certainly not myself. I hope my story will give hope. If it only touches one person, my purpose will have been achieved. If it breaks one person’s preconceived ideas about HIV and allows one sister to lend a hand to her infected brother, it would have been all worth it – tenfold! READ THE FIRST 15 PAGES FOR FREE!

Aug 23, 2009"My Life With Alphonse - Living with HIV by Fabien Nove-Josserand" My Life with Alphonse - Living with HIV by Fabien Nove-Josserand is an inspirational read about the life, trials and tribulations of a man who "accidentally" discovered his HIV status and continues to live life to the fullest, refusing, against all odds, to give up on his dreams and aspirations. This book is a must-read for anyone who needs motivation, courage and guidance in how to live with, and not succumb to, life-changing events. An easy read, written in a fun, energizing manner that makes the reader connects with the Author like friends do while having a personal conversation in comfortable, familiar surroundings. At the end of this read Fabien becomes more than just the Author; a friend that one can turn to time and time again for hope and inspiration. This book is a true, real-life account of how to live life and not just simply surive life! BRAVO! Review by: Stefan Frylinck
Jun 7, 2009"My Life With Alphonse" This book is unusually inspiring, honest and brave. I am a straight woman, HIV negative so at first glance, I am not the target market for this book. However, I think everyone should read this book. It relates a very positive attitude to a severe medical condition. Nevertheless the author always manages to bring out the humour and hope, in what would be a hopeless and humourless sentence. Read this book, it will help you whether you are HIV positive or not. Read it!
Apr 28, 2009"My life with Alphonse" Its amazing that something as simple as a book, can make such a impact on someone as it did to me.. Being very depressed in my own situation one friday morning, i made contact, just for a chat with Fabian on a well known web site. He gave me some good insight and told me about the book he wrote. We met later that afternoon, was first hesitant to take a copy of the book, but hell, why not! Later that nite i started reading and before i realised it ,it was late already and i was halfway through, the saturday i continued and finished the book by nitefall. Long story short, its riviting, uplifting, insightfull and informative about alot that we take for granted everyday living with hiv. What a interesting life story! Thank you Fabian, you gave me the will and understanding to pick myself up again!
Mar 16, 2009"My life with Alphonse" Started reading this book whilst labouring under the misapprehension that it would be a slow technical/factual account of HIV and one man's relationship with the virus. Boy was I wrong. I am not gay and neither do I have the virus and guess what... I am the authors target market. It is a rivetting read which I could not put down and read it cover to cover in 2 sittings. What did I get out of it. A more in depth understanding of how the virus works. Respect for the author and his roller coaster ride with his friend..sometimes enemy, Alphonse. It is a poignant story of one man's courage at the very beginning of the emergence of the virus and the ups and downs over 24 years. It is funny sad, violent, eye opening, breath taking and above all courageous. More than once I had tears in my eyes. Long live the author - a courageous man.
Jul 7, 2008"My Life with Alphonse" WOW, what a read! I could not put the book down and finished it on the same day. Fabien's story is enriching, funny, touching and educating. I have met Fabien and I realise why he wrote what he wrote in the book, and why he is such an inspiring person. Such a pity he cannot find a publisher to publish and market his story so that it can reach a wider audience and maybe touch a few more lives. Thanks Fabien John
Jun 21, 2008I was reading a lot of books on the subject of Aids and related articles, however this book or should i rather say this beautiful life story was truely amazing and filled with 'life'. This book is a Must read, it just shows us that what we experience in this life is so much the same, just on different levels. Winston Churchhill said "You create your own universe as you go along" Lets learn from the past, dream of 2mrw and Live for today. Be there for the person next to you and for yourself. Life is Awesome Fabien, You are a Star!
Mar 4, 2008"My Life With Alphonse - Living with HIV by Fabien Nove-Josserand " “Living With Alphonse” is significant in purpose for anyone wanting understanding of this enormous modern issue which is Aids and how it affects our world. Educational and entertaining , whether a beginner or another veteran , it explains so much in an easy to read account of his life . He clearly shows how the issue can be put in perspective relative to other major life issues , yet never underestimates the role it plays in his unfolding world. He encounters many wonderful experiences and adventures whilst coming to terms with ‘Alphonse’. As a hiv-positve Australian , I have frequently found myself drawn to the fascinating land of South Africa and it’s people but never been able to understand why. And so my interest in the book increased with each page as he explained his own experiences . Fabien articulates that most tricky and poignant thing about life which is fate. Through his bravery in writing this... More > book he shows the way forward . With compassion ,honesty and humour we continue in hope that one day Aids will no longer be a modern issue , but a historical one. Christopher< Less
Dec 5, 2007"My Life With Alfonso" This is a wonderful example of living with HIV instead of dying from it - thank you Fabien for sharing your life with us. Fabien has to be respected for finding his way ALONE and for so many years. It evidiently was not easy, and I wonder how many other people in our world, are still experiencing similar situations today. Reading this book felt as if Fabien was sitting next to me telling me the story of his life with HIV. His is also a story of the will to live with honour and not shame. HIV treatment and the availablity of ARVs is improving around the world. Wonderful stories like Fabien's remind us all, that HIV need not be a death sentence and our fight against the spread of it must be relentless if we are to ever find the cure, despite the threat of donor fatigue.

You owe this to yourself to read it!!
Dec 31, 1969"Review in Exit, South Africa's gay newspaper" My Life with Alphonse Living with HIV By Fabien Nové-Josserand Fabien picked up the virus in Paris when he first became sexually active in the early 80’s, and only discovered this a few years later when he was in Australia. His tale covers several continents and decades, as he is now a well-known member of Johannesburg gay society. “I hope my story will give hope, “said Fabien. “If it only touches one person, my purpose will have been achieved. If it breaks one person’s preconceived ideas about HIV and allows one sister to lend a hand to her infected brother, it would have been all worth it – tenfold!” This book is an honest and moving account of how one man has dealt with being HIV positive for the last 24 years, and, as such, has value for many others in similar situations, and for readers seeking an insight into the complex problems people with HIV have to deal with.
