Faraas Mannan - Architecture Masters Project
Situated between the piers of Brooklyn, this vertical garden floats over the water as if it was embedded in the river. Through its stem, the visitor is suspended within the space as if they themselves were water travelling up the spiraling roots - traversing through the marketplace, gardens and greenhouse. The building emulates the capillary action found within the plants that are grown hydroponically. The roots leech the water and carry it up to through the stem to feed the plants. Similarly, the structure carries up its visitors and feeds their curiosity. This parallel informs and ideally entices the visitor to explore the complex while spreading and supplying fresh, locally grown produce in the surrounding areas.
