A Comparison of Amateur Podcasting within the Context of Destination Development

This essay presents a discussion about the utility of podcasting for marketing, destination development and positioning of a destination for tourists. Podcasting refers to the distribution of audio MP3 or audiovisual content files in MP4 or similar formats over the Internet for viewing or listening by those interested. It is possible for anyone to create an amateur podcast using widely available and relatively inexpensive computing equipment, together with microphones, equalisers or cameras. However, content and quality of presentation makes a difference and a quality podcast can enhance the image of a destination. Thus, destination marketing for any destination must include quality podcasts that are readily available to all those with an interest in tourism.
