Logistics and Operations Management

ByFarrukh Khan

It is important to examine manufacturing cases because often these cases present insights that can lead to a deep understanding about why certain aspects are emphasised and things done the way in which they are. Manufacturing systems must perform in a highly competitive environment in which rapid market fluctuations related to demand and product specification are almost daily events. Thus, manufacturing operations must be agile and linked to the market, suppliers and customers through agile inbound and outbound supply chains. It is not desirable to maintain high levels of finished goods inventory and it is essential to aim for better quality in a relentless manner. Cost competition in the market requires that customers get quality goods produced at the right price and waste is minimised to lower production costs. The Multico Plc case, presented in Appendix A, which is the topic of discussion in this write-up, illustrates the previously mentioned observations.
