The Significance of Edward Said’s Orientalism and the Nature of Criticism for this Literary Work
The relationship between Europe and Asia has a 4000-year-old history and this means that it is only natural to expect that ideological suppositions, impressions, images and fantasies about the Orient created by those from Europe who were perhaps more competent do so exist in the European mind. What is the nature of these impressions and images and are they somewhat different from the reality of things? Were the Europeans guilty of trying to twist reality in a manner that served their interests for maintaining their superiority and hegemony? This essay presents a discussion about the significance of the work “Orientalism “and the criticism that this work has received.
