Small, numerous, endless steps will slowly lead to a serene life, to the realisation of those crucial things that we often allow the weight of everyday life to overwhelm, and to a realisation of the “things to do”, a large area which includes the complicity of a couple, and their love for their children. The majestic background of the whole story is a mountain, with its unfathomable border between man and sky, and the wonderful contrast of its soft snow in communion with the sun at its fiercest. And music, with its totalizing power, its unmatched pervasiveness. While reading it I cried with genuine emotion, and I saw the vulnerability of my sleeping children, and believed for a long, interminable moment, that I was capable of doing anything.
