"The MacDowalls" As a McDowell, it is quite a privilege to review the history and collaborative effort gathered in this one volume. I have read some of the information included here in other sources, but never in such a substantive form and with a proper time line. The MacDowall history and family groups are clearly defined, indeed a great help in understanding the various family branches. Nowhere else have I seen listings of ancient priories and holdings associated with the MacDowalls, with their locations. This book is invaluable. The sheer number of references in the bibliography, the care of definitions, the time line, the MacDowalls of the world—it is all here, making this volume a must-have in every serious family research library Charlotte McDowell Baker Administrator for The McDowell/MacDowall DNA Project
