This is an entertaining and skilfully woven blend of real life experience and Monty Pythonesque/Tom Sharpe fiction within the educational system of the early 1980s, bringing back some similar personal memories albeit from a couple of decades earlier. A sequel, whether as a continuation of Frances's time as a teacher or in her subsequent career is eagerly awaited.

Funny!? Funny ha ha, and funny peculiar: it's got it all. A book you can't put down - the author won't let you. Highly recommended

A funny story based around a school year in a comprehensive school. It features many stereotypical teacher traits and ones with which the reader can readily identify. It will remind you of 'the best days of your life' , make you realise just how standards have fallen in the intervening period but most importantly give you a good laugh

Really enjoyed this book and found it entertaining. It captured and brought to life the individual characters and the way they interact with each other. The humour is born out of the frustrations of such encounters on a daily basis; and the protagonist's dilemmas keep you captivated to the end. Good story line.

Humorous and entertaining, but despite the funny side, it is, in a way, quite sad that most of the content is true!! Education is not what it was nor what it should be. Michael Gove should read this and take note. Hopefully the sequel will be more revealing!
