There have been many books written about Tai Chi Ch'uan but this is the first on Ch'ang style Tai Chi Ch'uan. Whether you are new to Tai Chi or experienced in other styles, the Ch’ang style is a good one to learn.
Ch’ang Tai Chi is not so much a new style but rather a modification of the Yang style. The difference between the two is that the modifications within the Ch’ang style make it more suitable for combat. Grand Master Ch’ang Tung Sheng was China’s heavyweight champion of Shuai Chiao (wrestling) and was a very combat-oriented teacher. Throughout his entire life he was never defeated and this was due to his extensive knowledge of Kung Fu. After seeing the famous Li Ching-lin, a peerless swordsman and expert boxer, perform Yang style Tai Chi, Ch’ang realized that incorporating Shuai Chiao techniques into it would greatly enhance its defensive capabilities.
