This volume contains the Civil War letters written by Clark and James McDonald of the town of Meredith, New York, to their parents, siblings, and other relatives during the course of the War. The McDonald brothers enlisted in the 8th New York Independent Battery on October 7, 1861. The collection consists of 19 letters from James, who served a little more than a year before dying from disease, and 149 letters from Clark that span almost the entire duration of the War and beyond.
