Rene Locke and her grandmother Flo are separated by emigration. When the two women are reunited after decades, can the stories they tell each other bring a new lease of life, or is the present irreparably haunted by the past? Set between the 1950s and the fag end of the C20th, and on opposite sides of the globe, Dreamboat is a novel exploring memory, recovery and the meaning of human connection amongst the legacies of colonialism.

Beautifully rendered book. Deeply observed and written with honesty and intense feeling. Very fine debut novel. More to come, I hope.

Stylish, polished writing combined with multi-dimensional characters and an intriguing perspective on relationships across generations, continents and gender. The language leaps off the page and grabs the reader right from the beginning. The story is full of 'big ideas' dealing with ageing, grief, sexuality and colonialism, while remaining firmly character-led. Readers who have enjoyed Annie Proulx or Ann Michaels will love this.
