This is a story told through the eyes of a young sailor who joined the Royal Navy in 1955 as a Boy Seaman 2nd class, which was the absolute lowest rank in the Navy. Follow his life story from the moment he arrived at HMS Ganges, the toughest boy's training establishment in England. Sail with him aboard destroyers and submarines. Visit exciting places such as Hong Kong and Australia. Capture prisoners off Iceland during the Cod War. Travel under the arctic ice in a diesel/electric submarine. Feel the fear as the submarine sinks to crush depth. Whether you are a sailor or a dreamer of the sea, this is one voyage not to be missed.

This is a wonderful story, a must read for all us old salts who spent time in The Mob (Royal Navy) - colourful, humourous, bits we'd like to remember, bits we'd rather forget, and bits we'll tell our grandchildren about ... great stuff!
