The adventures and everyday life of an Iowa family driving their new Ford Model A west to California during the first months of the Great Depression. Traveling nearly 10,000 miles in 1929 and ‘30, mostly on dirt roads, through twelve different states, their journey lasted seven and a half months. Recounted from a daily diary and photographs they took along the way, this is a significant historical record of the early days of automobile road trips. Includes 113 photographs.

"A real slice of history" Although this volume is a bit pricey, it takes one back to the halcyon days of discovery and vagabonds, viewing their first glimpses of their country beyond their familiar boundaries. The picture they took of Mt. Rushmore, with only one head partially completed, is priceless! - J. Hammond
