What an amazing book! I would love to talk to the author about the poems sometimes as they are intriguing and beguiling at the same time. Steve is quite the "onion" - revealing all these layers previously unknown. Really impressive. -Jennifer Hughes-Cole

"Before Words could Walk" is a special way to present works to the reader and I was pleased to find that phrase in the poem, "What Matters Most", which was the poem that touched my heart the most. That he can also weave rhyme into the cadence of the words also entices my ear. Reading Steve's poems aloud is a joy! Writing poetry is a gift; thank you for sharing that gift. -Diane Church

Steve Hupe's poems consistently have an element of surprise in a line that startles me into a new way of thinking about what I previously had thought of as commonplace. -Roger Weaver, author "The Orange and other Poems", "Reading the Stones" and "New and Delected Poems"

I loved it! The poems really spoke to me and I thoroughly enjoyed all the rich imagery and metaphors. I also liked the way I could see nature in ways I never imagined. Some of my favorite poems are: Mistress, Over The Edge, What Winter Imagines, Sea Waves and Starfish. I'm looking forward to volume 2 already!
