Job hunting when you are a middle aged woman with a young son isn’t easy. Frankly its depressing. Ruth Watson answers an odd advertisement and finds herself taking on a role she could never have imagined in her wildest dreams – saving not just the universe but the multiverse.
Pitched headlong into a parallel world she reluctantly takes on the mantle of Mage Prime and in the process puts her son, her new friends and herself in danger. At the same time she discovers she isn’t too old to fall for the handsomest man around.
Magic, mayhem and cast of wonderful characters will have you turning the pages late into the night in this first volume of the Pelarian Multiverse Chronicle.
Reader's comments:
More grown up than 'Harry Potter', more fun than'The Lord of the Rings'. It is a fast moving, satisfyingly well detailed adventure with all characters vigorously drawn. There is a sting in the tail that left this reader avid for the next volume.
"Situation Vacant" Wow! I started to read this book and was lost in it from the first paragraph. I have heard the term 'page turner' used a lot, but in this case it is true. I didn't want to put it down. Ruth is a wonderful person thrust into a confusing and new set of worlds. She must find her son who has been kidnapped by some of the people of these other worlds. She learns to trust these new people right along with you as you read it. She, and the story, are realistic and believable. I await the next book in the series, impatiently!
"'Situation Vacant' by Gabrielle Staples" ***** More grown up than 'Harry Potter', more fun than'The Lord of the Rings', this beautifully structured fantasy hurtles the reader between the reality of our world and vivid parallel worlds in the multiverse. It is a fast moving, satisfyingly well detailed adventure with all characters vigorously drawn. The reader really cares about what happens to the heroine, Ruth, coming to terms with a very different life and her own power in it whilst juggling normal life back home. Everyone will wish they had their own crystal for great travel. Although the balance of good and evil is finally restored, there is a sting in the tail that left this reader avid for the next volume. It would translate brilliantly to the big screen and not an Orc or an Ent in sight.
"Situation Vacant" A great piece of page turning escapism. It has a brilliant cast of characters that got me hooked right from the start. She builds a vivid picture of a parrallel universe facing armagedon and their only hope of saviour is a single Mum discovering powers she never knew she had. A great story that leaves lot's of room for your imagination to run riot. Can't wait for the next installment
