  "STARSEEDS IN HAWAII" by GAIL HOWELL is an amazing and engaging illustrated 'science fiction' book for the young and the young at heart. It is the story of an incredible journey that unfolds to a young part-Hawaiian boy named Kai during the course of an evening that he spends "camping out" in his tree-house near the little town of Hilo on the tropical and lush east side of the Big Island of Hawaii. The Big Island is as big as the rest of the Hawaiian Islands put together and it is still home to one of the world's most active volcanic areas. Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea are two of the highest mountains in the world if measured from their bases at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Kilauea Crater and other parts of the world famous "Volcanos National Park" area are continuously erupting. Lava spews into the sky and pours towards the sea daily as molten liquid magma escapes violently from deep below the earth's crust. At a Luau, Kai listens to the wise "Kupuna... More > lady" tell the story of an ancient land called "Lemuria" that sank below the sea a long time ago in the area now known as Hawaii. That night, Kai is visited by a pair of "Star People" from far away across the Universe. Then he realizes that this was not a dream because they left him gifts including a black kitten and a magic crystal. Kai begins a journey that will soon take him far beyond the shores of his tropical island home. Kai discovers that he is truly one of the many "Starseeds in Hawaii". His life has suddenly transformed itself into a new and wondrous magical adventure. It all happened in just one star-filled tropical Hawaiian night. As Kai camped-out up in his tree-house, he gazed up at the Milky Way and all the other stars and galaxies that spread out for billions of light years far beyond our home on this little planet known as Earth, he was sure that we are not alone in the Universe!
