"In the world of Okinawan Karate there are those that talk and those that do - Gary Lever is a doer." Balancing work, family and training is how this author makes karate-do his way of life. In Parting the Clouds with Empty Hands the reader is taken beyond the modern placebo that is 'combat efficiency' in martial arts and is instead treated to a series of short articles that cover a diverse range of deeper topics spanning the mental, physiological and psychological aspects of advanced karate training. Gary Lever is a highly skilled exponent and has made several trips to Okinawa to train at source and research the origins of his art. In this book he shares some of his adventures and the fruit of the conversations he had with several senior Okinawan masters. Regardless of whether you study Goju Ryu or any karate style this book will have something for you. It's a light read and a great book for 'dipping into' because each Chapter can either be read as a stand alone piece. Well... More > worth it.
