As the world falls into darkness under the weight of a mysterious illness an old, well worn detective is nearing his retirement. But before any celebrations can begin, a killer has come to Hood River, Oregon to capitalize on the world wide epidemic some refer to as the Suffering, and some refer to as simply, The Symptoms. And it will be up to Detective Hoyt Bodry to find this madman who tauntingly refers to himself as, ‘Suffering’s End.’ But Bodry is not the young detective that he used to be. Old age has settled in before retirement making his final task all that much more difficult. Above all else, Bodry learns in the worst of ways that sometimes the choices we make can have lasting, impactful consequences. Once he realizes it, he knows there is only one road he can go down. And just when Bodry thought he had finished one race, he finds himself at the beginning of a new road...a road to redemption. Free downloadable copy now available:... Oct 15, 2009"The Search for Suffering's End" I always now I am going to like a writer when I read the first page of their book. It's the flow of the words and lack of boring or overused phrases and ideas. It's the choices for names of characters and whether or not I want to get to know them. All of these things make me turn to the next page. I turned the pages over and over again in Suffering's End. The combination of sci-fi and detective novel with a tasteful touch of religion is refreshing. The characters and plot are engaging. The descriptive passages kept me on the edge of my seat with scenes in which I feared for Detective Bodry. Gary Batta has delivered with a setting in the future that has a real old detective novel feel. Detective Bodry is near to retirement when he is engaged by a case with a "just one more" pull. He needs to solve this last case. He needs answers. Why are people that he thought faithful targeted by Suffering's End? Why does Detective Bodry's faith... More > protect him? I enjoyed "The Search for Suffering's End" from cover to cover. Now, I need to know what is next. Keep writing Mr. Batta! I am a casual reader. I find myself in bookstores quite often. It is rare though that I actually pick one to come home with me and I have never bought one on the internet. I look at covers and read jackets.I love the smell of them, and the feel of them in my hands. When they contain riveting content I am in a new world. This book delivers!< Less
