Non-academic philosophy has something of the mythical about it in popular opinion. Everyone knows there are Ivy League academic philosophers with a pipe and co-eds, and that there are pro philosophers of ethics writing studies for corporations finding the fundamental decency in anything. The non-academic philosopher, unless independently wealthy, has more than a little of the mythical urban legend about him or her. They are regarded as individuals perhaps hanging out too many years at Ventura Beach claiming to do some reading of Kant besides. This book will clarify some of that myth showing what kind of philosophical writing a non-academic independent might generate.
