"The author betrays his love for Our Lord!" (Preview Only) I read the preview and one thing, above everything else, struck me - the author's immense love for God. (Something so rare today!) I gather the writer's strong love for the Lord militated against any sort of objectivity. But, whoever cares for the language or the style or tone when listening to such a charismatic preacher. I feel a few more pages should be displayed as preview - four pages give only a very short glimpse of the author's ideas. (Perhaps he intended only that!) Still, I can't but comment on the language. As another reviewer pointed out, the tinge of archaism, especially in the quotations from the Holy Book, adds to the gravity and also the beauty of the sermon. Still, I did come across a few linguistic errors, which, given the fact that the writer is more known for his gift of the gab, are completely ignorable. Again, as I said, whoever is going to bother about the style, the dress, when the body, the... More > ideas are so arresting!< Less

(Preview only) It's hard to tell from the four-page preview what the structure of the book will be, but the author's determination to win souls for Christ is enough. To rely on the King James Bible adds a 17th-century flavour to the English, and that Bible has a fine rhythm to its flow of language. The preview pages make perfect sense if the reader keeps separate the sociological "we", as in "We invest in luxurious motor-cars", and the elect "we", as in "We serve God", and the exhortatory "you", as in "you will be judged". The capital letters and exclamation marks make the author's intent perfectly clear, at least throughout the four-page preview. The reader has a sense of being present at a sermon, and the pulpit presence of a gifted speaker comes through in the writing.
