You will NOT be placated with some dissertation on the cultural ramications of how the "N" word has kept down or extinguished the hopes and dreams of young black men and women for centuries. Nope, you'e not getting that. What you will get however, is a novel that artfully reveals what the true nature of the "N" word really is, and how it shapes the mindsets of the characters in the book and in how they choose to live their lives. 'Redefining The "N" Word' is at heart, a narrative - albeit an artful, gutteral narrative that uses several character-driven plot lines to unveil to the reader, how this word becomes the very personification of life to the characters who have doomed themselves to live in the mental construct, which the "N" word imprisons them in. As depressing as that sounds, the coolest part of this book is how the author, Gary Scott skillfully and patiently unveils this truth to the mind of the reader, through the eyes of the... More > characters and NOT through author (as many books do). Simultaneously both the reader and the characters live through an amazing mind-grenade! You'll find this book hard to put down once you start reading it. Gary Scott does an outstanding job of presenting his perspective of the generational destructive power of the "N" word, but uses these extremely flawed, emotionally and physically damaged characters to reveal this great revelation in a timed-release manner...much like an over-the-counter cold/flu medication. The revelation of the truth about the "N" word is visceral. This book is a flat-out, mind-grenage. One that is liberating but temporarily crippling as you come to terms with just how deceptively, self-limiting the "N" word really is. I felt a lot like Neo did when Morpheus had to break it down to him that he was only limited by his mind, which was not his own until he realized the mental construct he existed in was what was limiting him. This forced Neo to redefine his existence, which in turn gave him new - limitless options. That truth blew Neo's mind...just as this book is gonna blow yours. Morpheus challened Neo to free his mind. I would challenge everyone of you to free your own mind as well. Get this book, 'Redefining The "N" Word', I'd find anyone with a conscience, hard-pressed to NOT change the way think about using the "N" word, and in doing so see themselves not as what this word implies, but as whom God made you to be.< Less

"Redefining the N word" is a captivating, in your face novel that I just could not put down. It shows just how isolating it is to be defined by one word no matter what your race, culture or background is, 5 stars, two thumbs up, must read.
