Philosophy, Theories and Core Principles of the Art I do know the “elephant” exists, I have seen its many parts, sometimes the whole of its being, but in only glimpses, as it runs through the “jungle” of my body, mind and spirit. The first step into the dojo places the new practitioner of Budo (the warrior way) in a new environment. The Sensei and the dojo collectively take on each new student and begin a long process – teaching the student to see their own part of the “elephant”. If the student continues the journey, over time, they will see the elephant in its entirety, piece by piece

What you think of yourself and how you respond to your self-concept of self-image or your idea of yourself has a great deal to do with your happiness and success. If your self-confidence, respect, esteem, reliance, assurance, and acceptance are weak...then you may remain weak for life and a low self-image. After reading this excellent account I can see that the author Gary Ducote Kyoshi has taken every aspects of the lessons of his productive life, and apply then to this new and dynamic concept of the Shisei Ryu Aikibudo. He was instructed and learned well the lesson of his old teachers of the past not only from the martial arts arena but from his outstanding military background, those are the lessons and the base from which all else is built. I strongly recommend this book for those that are seeking the "budo way" and as a way to develop an attitude for success.

From a student's perspective, "Seeing The Whole Elephant" offers insight into the origins and intentions of Budo in general: as an art form and way of life, and of Shisei Ryu Aikibudo in specific. After reading the book, a student will understand that the only requirement to begin training is the desire to learn, but that there is much more to be learned than self defense or physical fitness. Shisei Ryu Aikibudo training has the potential to affect every aspect of life, and the book hints that it will be an exciting journey.

This book captures the essence of the thought, vision and momentum of Shisei-ryu Aiki-budo. Knowing the author personally, and having read many of his works makes it easy to recommend this book to all who are serious about their journey in Budo.

This art is relatively new. I have attempted to capture the art in printed format. This is written in normal conversational english, making it easy to read and understand. The book gives all a good insight into the art of Shisei Ryu Aikibudo from the perspective of the founder of the art. I am looking forward to future books which I will show and catalog the formal techniques for children and adults, as well as Nihon Goshin Jutsu
