I received this book as a gift. The poems are very accessible and should appeal to both adults and children. The 'nonsense' poems are written in a similar style to those of Spike Milligan: "The people walk backwards Because they cannot walk straight And they always arrive early But it is always too late" The above is an extract from the poem: "In Dingle town" Here’s another example from the poem, "Google Shanks": " His behaviour was odd and some did say ’Why stand on your head all night and all day?’ Google’s answer was simple and not that profound. ‘The world looks better upside down’ Not all of the poems in the book are ‘nonsense’ poems but these particularly appeal to me. Whilst appearing deceptively simple I feel there is a deep and meaningful message in some of the poems. I am referring here to one of my favourite poems in the book – "The Wise Man." Here is a short extract: ‘What makes me wise is very little I’m very old and my bones... More > are brittle I sit alone because I can Apart from that I’m just a man’ But he was more than that the people thought And they gave him gifts that they had brought For only a wise man lives alone The wisest mind needs not flesh nor bone' There are seventy poems in the book so there is bound to be something that appeals to you – if you like accessible poetry! It is also illustrated throughout by the author. If you like something a bit different I highly recommend it.< Less
