Mapping My Journey collates and captures the living memory from members of the transgender community, relating to personal journeys, people’s recollections of spaces, places and events.
Spanning over 60 years of local history, references to spaces, places and events that were significant to our interviewees along their personal journey. Memorabilia and photographs were collected, and the book includes insight into the Birmingham Museum.
At the exhibition, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Mike Leddy stated: “It is the story of a journey. Not one person’s, but of a number of peoples journeys. It is educational. It is eye opening. It is heart rending... “
Rachel Mann stated: “Twenty years ago, and maybe even now, many of us who are trans were seen as tabloid fodder, as freaks, as other, the ones to be pointed at. But this exhibition is about saying we are normal. We are ordinary.”
We hope you enjoy our book.
