Oct 14, 2009I was captured by this novel from the moment I picked it up. As a victim of abuse I related to the emotions and the trauma experienced by this writer. How he was able to cope with the mistreatment and remain the polite young man that he was is totally understandable. The fear of his father must have haunted him with every breath. I am looking forward to a follow-up of this book. Hopefully his life in the future has been a more pleasant one.
Oct 14, 2009"Re: Re: Your Comments" Dear Tony please allow me to say I do understand and accept your remarks about the book I have written. I also know that there are countless errors in grammer as well as other problems. When I wrote my story I wanted to make sure above all else that I did not want to infer that I was an author by any means and stated so on the back cover.I did not write this story for monetary gain but did so for theraputic reasons. Being on a fixed income of social security I do not have the funds to have the book edited bye someone qualified. I am certainly sorry that we started off on the wrong foot and extend my apology to you.I know there will never be any financial gain for what I have written but it did allow me to vent my frustrations. Thank you once again and allow me to wish you good health and happiness. Jerry Consiglio firstname.lastname@example.org
Aug 21, 2009"The Italian Angela's Ashes" I have been waiting for this book for 10 years. I loved Frank McCourt's "Angela's Ashes" and I knew someday someone would write the Italian version. This is the story of a miserable Italian childhood. The biggest difference in these two books is food. The McCourts had no food. Little Italy had food all over the place. You can smell the food. Add to that the "West Side Story" type of gang who called themselves the "Sons of Little Italy", strutting down the street, all dressed alike. This book makes you laugh and cry. If you have a drop of Italian blood, you will relate to the old women with rosaries in their aprons and the brilliant descriptions of the neighbhood and the colorful characters. When you finish reading this book, you will start over and read it again.
Jul 29, 2009"Reading About My Roots" I thought this book would remind me of my own Italian childhood. In fact, it was just the opposite. I had a happy Italian childhood. It surprised me that the little boy (Gennaro) could be so mannerly and loving to other people, always calling them by name, etc. when he knew what he had to face when he got home. The neighbors all knew how mean his father was, but no one would talk about it; so unlike today. In today's world, a story like that would be front page news. I do not see how Gennaro survived it all. His aunt and uncle saved him. Great book.
Jun 16, 2009"Re: Re: Re: Your Comments" I noticed that you removed your childish comments in your earlier response. To any one reading this thread, it looks like I am the bad guy. Clever. As to your assertion that you are not interested in making money on your book, why is it even on Lulu in the first place? Lulu is for authors who cannot get their work published by more main stream outlets for whatever reasons. Regarding not being able to afford an editor, try contacting the english department of a local college. I am sure that they could connect you up with a grad student who would edit you book for little, or even no, money. Tony PS By the by, merely saying you are not an author is a poor excuse for lousy writing.
