The Mark finds Jack Mawgan tasked with forming a “National Air Support Unit” to administer the local ASUs (Air Support Units) and rationalize their contracts and suppliers. This goes against the ingrained multi-layered corruption that controls the acquisition process and goes to the highest levels of British government, European capitals, and industrial tycoons. They soon push back. Jack is kidnapped and smuggled to a fruit farm in Morocco where he is used as slave labour. Pam is frantic and enlists Dan Barclay to investigate. Jack escapes captivity and masquerades as a ship’s doctor on a mega-yacht owned by an Armenian mobster. It crosses the Mediterranean back to Europe aqnd Dan follows leads through Spain, Italy and Switzerland. Meanwhile, Dan Barclay’s investigation leads from Morocco then. Pam receives a text message that takes her to Copenhagen. Rich prose and dramatic storytelling lead tp a twisting turning shocker of an ending.

A tightly written thriller that, once again, takes our hero, Jack Mawgan, though several countries and many threats on his life, as he is swept along by events, beyond his control as part of a wide ranging plot of corruption in the highest places. It is clear that Geoff Newman has considerable expertise in the management of the UK police helicopter and air ambulance field fleets and uses that with his dislike of a developing UK kleptocracy to write a complex yet thoroughly engrossing and wide ranging plot. The Mark is difficult to put down as you are always left wanting to know what is going to happen next in events that take the reader into some complex and diverse scenarios. You will enjoy this, the last in the Jack Mawgan trilogy.
