That little voice in your head … your conscience. We all hear it, in our own ways. It’s been portrayed as an angel in one ear and a devil in the other, but it’s really all in your head. Isn’t it? Ariel Parisi leads a carefree, charmed life…until a random act of charity reveals those angels and devils and sends him in search of hope. SOUL AFFLICTED is a godless man’s journey, following the voices in his head and signs from God, seeking the angel who’ll save him from the sins afflicting him. But is Ariel afflicted, or has he lost his grip on reality as his charmed life falls to pieces? This book explores spirituality through fiction, traveling from Colorado through the deserts of the American Southwest, to L.A. and on to Hawaii. It weaves basic tenets of western religions and Buddhism with elements of mystery and the paranormal. It doesn’t preach or espouse any religion, only one man’s questions about faith.

Jun 2, 2011I really enjoyed Soul Afflicted and the spiritual journey that the author maps out for the reader. The descriptive writing is engaging and ideas raised are thought-provoking for anyone who spends any time thinking about the big questions. Instead of providing answers, the author raises questions as he sets out on a journey across the southwest. Not for the feint of heart...but for those willing to grapple with the meaning of life.
May 18, 2011A beautiful journey of a man wrestling with familiar life issues - success, relationships, joy, satisfaction, etc. The internal journey and the physical journey are well portrayed and draw the reader into the character's internal awakening. Anyone familiar with the SW US will appreciate the physical journey and the writer's description of familiar and unfamiliar places. A great read that inspires thought about ones own journey. 5 stars.
May 11, 2011I really enjoyed this book and found the character's journey to be interesting and thought provoking. Character development is colorful and rich as are the environments and situations. I like the ambiguity of events, real and/or imagined, that lead him along the way and ultimately to his own enlightenment. Good read!
May 11, 2011Wonderful story of one man’s spiritual journey. Very well written. Loved the traveling aspect and the way Ariel found signs in everything. You don’t need to be overly religious to appreciate this story.
May 10, 2011This new author has a very descriptive style of writing. He takes you on the journey of a man who is "afflicted" with the sins of his life. The story is filled with signs and symbols but he wrestles with them and tries to decide if they are coincidences or really signs from God. The man in the book states that there are signs everywhere if we just look for them which makes you think about signs in your own life. There is some strong language in the book and some sexual content. I look forward to a sequel to this book to see the transformation that takes place in this man's life. Conclusion: 4 out of 5 stars (loses a star for language and sexual content)
