A companion to 'BECOMING ME: As I Think It Happened ... this book presents highlights from the 45 year working career of a creative systems designer and manager who quickly progressed from clerk to senior management in large corporations and then to a freelancing management consultant. A natural planner and collaborator, he pioneered in the development of modular computer programming techniques and comprehensive computer applications that supported operational systems and management decision-making. The 'tales' include some of the lighter, memorable moments that flavoured the technical, managerial, and consulting experience.

Jun 7, 2015This book, Mr. Jardine's second,is more appealing to the eye, and easier to read than, 'BECOMING ME: As I think It Happened' mainly because it is written as a series of vignettes, each with a heading. In his corporate life, Mr. Jardine was first a highly creative analyst/programmer and then a superb manager. The pioneering management information systems that he and his staff developed and implemented in partnership with the users truly unleashed and applied computers in comprehensive ways that far exceeded industry norms --- leading edge accomplishments! Certain technical details were somewhat hard to digest, but obviously they were important components of several success stories. Mr. Jardine spent the greater part of his working life as a freelance management consultant and I applaud the bravery in setting out on his own and the success that was achieved. I enjoyed the many 'incidents' that coloured his career. And I enjoyed the humour and the tactful recognition of colleagues,... More > staff, and clients. Recognizing those responsible for his personal development was a nice touch. Especially interesting was how his sister unknowingly got him onto his career path. The well-written eulogy included in an appendix expresses his heartfelt love and admiration for her. All in all, a professional book by a most able professional. Well done, Mr. Jardine!< Less
Mar 30, 2014I thoroughly enjoyed this account of the development of the computer in the Canadian workplace by a seasoned Canadian author who learned to use the computer effectively in his workplace and share its value with others. His honest appraisal of the events that shaped his personal and professional development I found enlightening. George was introduced to the computer at an elementary level and he progressed with artful persistence and perseverence to senior management positions and computer consultation services. He shares his experience and his appreciation for the computer by using a pleasant personable style reminiscent of his first book "On Becoming Me - As I Think It Happened". I look forward to the next book by this author.
