This is a 'must have' book not only for operators, design engineers or any users of hydrocyclones but it is an essential reference book for anybody with interests in solid-liquid separation and classification or washing of solids, and also in de-oiling of water and de-gassing of liquids. Professor Svarovsky won't be a stranger to many hundreds of short course participants who have attended his courses in the past 35 years or so. Many others will know his leading textbook on Hydrocyclones published in 1984 which is still available, now as Volume I to this new additional Volume II. Both of the volumes have been developed from the course manuals and as such are very practical, giving lots of useful worked examples, logic diagrams, conversion formulae and other useful algebra and graphs needed for hydrocyclone design, installation, testing and operation. As the book is supposed to be supplementing Volume I, the authors have obviously tried to minimize duplication between the two volumes.... More > However, some repetition was inevitable such as for example a short description of the hydrocyclone principle and of its applications in the Introduction has clearly been necessary because Volume II may sometimes have to stand on its own. Other examples may be found in the review of the theories, the series arrangements and the counter-current washing because these subjects needed major expansion or updating. So much so that counter-current washing now has its own Chapter 7 in Volume II. The most useful chapters are Nos 4 (installation & testing), 5 (design and scale-up), 6 (networks) and 7 (counter-current washing), and these are outstanding and quite unique in the available literature. All-in-all, the book has a professional feel and is well produced. I am sure it will repeat the success and reputation that Volume I has now enjoyed for nearly 30 years.< Less
