George Tucker's 1827 novel was one of the earliest attempts at science fiction by an American author. It is also one of the first uses of anti-gravity in literature. Tucker was one of Edgar Allan Poe's university instructors and this novel was an important influence on Poe's decision to write his own space travel novel.
