Drawn from Welsh mythology, natural observation, and bitter personal experience, the poems in Giles Watson's latest collection explore human emotions in a raw and uncompromising style, and in a variety of voices. The poems at the heart of this new collection centre on the refusal to be silenced in the aftermath of a violent incident. Others explore folkloric themes, but all are united by a humane conscience which nevertheless insists on the right to express anger at gendered violence, injustice, objectification and victim-blaming. Many of the poems are complemented by dark and beautiful illustrations by Buffarches, creating a subtle and haunting dialogue between text and image.
