The Fisherman Song was composed on May 27, 2016, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria. The creative process of this piece was informed by a fictional folk story created by the composer, in which a fisherman uses his flute to catch fish. Each time the man goes to the river for fishing, he would start his expedition by playing tuneful melodies on his musical instrument. As soon as the fish hears the sound of the flute, they all rush to the surface of the river to fully enjoy the sonorous melodies emitting from the wind instrument. Once the fisherman spots a large amount of the sea creatures assembled, he would swiftly spread out his net to entrap the school of fish. He goes home smiling with a bountiful harvest for his family, friends, neighbors and for sale at the local village market.
