Sonic Conversation for Two Violins and Organ

ByGodwin Sadoh

The Sonic Conversation for two violins and organ was composed on June 12, 2016, in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. It is an original composition with the exception of mm. 141 to 163 that is infused with a Yoruba traditional song, "Omo to mo 'ya re l'oju, osi ni o t'omo na pa" (The child that eyed or disrespect his/her mother, shall end up living a miserable life). It is a sectional work demarcated by a principal theme that appears first in violin II at the beginning of the piece. This composition is characterized by various Nigerian traditional music creative procedures such as repetition, ostinato patterns, harmonic and rhythmic organizations, and imitative techniques. Its tonality is fixated on one of the African traditional music pitch collections, the hexatonic scale of six tones.
