In the years 1919 to 1929, China’s political landscape was tumultuous and rapidly changing. The YMCA Foreign Service in these same years worked to expand globally, including into China. As part of the expansion Warren and Hallie Cline left the United States and were stationed for the YMCA in Kaifeng, China. Throughout the years Hallie wrote letters home to family members recounting the moments that made her life in China. She tells of illness, struggle and concerns of raising a family. She dealt with the same issues any mother would but for her she also had the backdrop of living in a strange land that was in the midst of redefining itself -- China. This book is Hallie’s journey based on her personal letters.
