This dissertation investigates British cinema animation from 1941 to 1987. The methodology chosen is to focus on the analysis of four specific British feature-length animation films; Animal Farm (1954), Yellow Submarine (1968), Watership Down (1979), and When the Wind Blows (1987). The analysis examines how these films were shaped by political and social concerns that were prevalent at their time of production (contrary to popular acceptance of the 'cartoon' medium as strictly for the entertainment of children).
