Painstakingly researched, combining historical documents, newspaper and magazine articles, and moving oral histories, this beautifully written book weaves the dramatic, emotional, and ultimately triumphant story of the unlikely heroes - addicts believed to be dangerous and irredeemable - who, against incredible odds, established Narcotics Anonymous in New York.

This book is an awesome story, told in an awesome way. It starts long before the "accepted" birthdate of NA, with Danny C. and his crew in the 1940s, and carries us forward, through trials and tribulations of almost unbelievable adversity, to the first successful Regional Convention (in 1985) of Narcotics Anonymous in New York.
