Thanks for Nothing: How Willie and Abe Saved Thanksgiving
Paperback, 24 Pages
Prints in 3-5 business days
It is Halloween and Christmas versus Thanksgiving in a festive, fun-for-all-ages battle of the holidays. Hampton Dellinger’s “Thanks for Nothing” tells the story of how two boys and a grandmother make sure Thanksgiving is celebrated properly despite being increasingly overshadowed by Halloween on one side and Christmas on the other. This funny, poignant, and beautifully illustrated holiday story is also educational. Character names evoke historical figures responsible for the Thanksgiving we celebrate today. A glossary connects the characters to their famous namesakes. Each book also provides a page for child readers to write down what they are thankful for. The author, Hampton Dellinger, lives in North Carolina with his wife Jolynn, son Jackson, and daughter Austen Grace. His writings for adults have been published in the Harvard Law Review, the National Law Journal, and several newspapers. This is Hampton’s first book for children.

Sep 27, 2009"Thanks for Nothing by Hampton Dellinger" Delightful story of a little boy holding tight to a holiday he loves, and a grandmother who shares the true meaning of Thanksgiving with her grandson. The illustrations beautifully depict the hectic holiday season beginning with Halloween and ending with Christmas. Because of a family move to another city and new demands on his parents, Willie feels his family's Thanksgiving celebration will not be the same -- especially with the family so far away from Grandma Jo. Willie makes a friend at his new school, and finds that Thanksgiving is also Abe's favorite holiday. Together they come up with a plan to bring their families together for a true Thanksgiving Feast. The surprise at the end of the book illustrates the importance of being with family for holiday celebrations. Thanks for Nothing will appeal to children and adults alike who look forward every year to the holiday season. Childhood memories of Thanksgiving dinners with... More > siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins stay with you a lifetime. This is a beautifully written book that your children and grandchildren will enjoy reading to you.
