Eleven years ago her life was shattered. Her parents, ruthlessly torn from their children, paid the ultimate price for what they believed. The year is now 1193 A.D. and Victoria lives with her twin brother and guardian; poor peasants, but content. Then one day everything changes when a knight from a neighboring country brings news that will forever alter the course of their lives. Now they are pursued and hunted by two of the most powerful men in the countries of Dakron and Arindrae combined. Has God called her to this? Tori doesn't know. All she knows is that turning back is not an option. The past of those before her drives Victoria into a life not of her choosing...on a journey where only God knows the ending.

This is one of those books that just 'calls' out to be read. Coming from the voice and heart of one who usually abhors reading historical fiction, I have to say that this book truly gave me a fresh look at the genre and a new love for history. Hannah has one of those clear voices that emanates from the book itself without covering up the distinct voices of the characters. Keeping you at the edge of your seat with barely a break to breathe, this book will have you riveted to the pages until the very end. So give it a chance. Within the pages lies the great world of Dakron to explore, characters you can know and love, a plot that twists and turns with every page, climactic scenes, and solid themes as black and white as the ink upon the very pages themselves.

Clean, fast-paced, and absorbing. I read one of the early drafts of this book and almost forgot that it's Historical Fiction. This is one of the few HF books that I love. Hannah's voice is strong and easy to read, and her characters are well developed. The plot is solid. I can't think of anything to compare it to, since I don't read much Historical Fiction, but her style is a little like Ted Dekker's.
