A review of “Retribution” by “Doc” Macomber: Espionage thrillers spring on the scene in different ways. In one of my favorite novels by John LeCarre, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, at the beginning of the book the protagonist’s is a real mystery. The reader senses that something is amiss. The character doesn’t appear quite right. His world is in turmoil. And, it’s about to explode. In Harley S. Sachs latest thriller, Retribution, Irwin Glass is a similar enigma. The illegitimate daughter he had with a Russian Agent – who showed up at the end of book one in this exciting series – has gone missing and it shatter’s Glass’ world. He doesn’t know why she’s left or where she has gone. He just knows at all costs he has to find her and begins to put a plan together, which involves old liaisons from his past and the Russian mafia. Glass travels with his new bride, Ivy, to a place called “The Farm,” a government facility used to train and interrogate agents. A former Russian Spy seeks... More > political asylum in the U.S., a man who once said he would kill Glass if he ever saw him again. After twenty years, Irwin must face him, but this time things are different. Then, people start dying. Glass doesn’t know who to trust. Once again, Mr. Sachs has hit a home run with Retribution. The writing is tight, the plot fresh and intriguing. Like any good spy novel the psychological tension continually builds to a knockdown, drag-out, shoot ‘em up finale. It seems only fitting that at the end of the book we’re left wanting much more of Irwin Glass...< Less
