Constitutional scholar Harold W. Bolinger has prepared a short handbook for registered voters. It is a primer in the electoral process, with basic information on elections at the municipal, county, state and federal levels, & brief overviews of both grand and petit juries. Suitable for all ages, it is especially appropriate for home schoolers, or those just graduating high school and registering to vote for the first time. Contains: full texts of the Declaration of Independence and US Constitution–the later is collated to the Federalist Papers for studies in the words and meanings of each referenced clause of the Constitution. Another appendix is a Constitution study guide, and yet another contains links to many sources of information, such as law libraries for state constitutions & more. If you are looking for an inexpensive reference tool for government studies in civics, American History, and our responsibilities in American society, this is it!

From the title you might expect a safe and innocuous plea for "good citizenship" put out by the sincere but timid people feeding at the public trough. You would be wrong. For Harold Bolinger good citizenship means "power to the people." The language of the book is easy and readable - and not nearly as inflammatory as this review is so far! The language is nice and polite, but the content is worthy of Tom Paine. Bolinger will fill in a few holes in your knowledge. Like, do you actually know what a grand jury is? I didn't. But he will also quietly drop a few bombshells. Like, do you know what your rights are as a juror? Did you know that jurors have the power to declare a person innocent because the law is unjust? Or because they do not feel the law-breaking constitutes a crime against society? In this age of centralized big government this little book opens our eyes to the forgotten possibilities of local government, including the most local - the individual.
