Uncle Tom's Cabin was first published in serial form in the anti-slavery newspaper, The National Era, during the year of 1851, and in the form of a two volume book the following year. Harriet Beecher Stowe’s stated aim was that “I would write something that would make this whole nation feel what an accursed thing slavery is.” She certainly achieved her aim. The book became a best seller in the United States, Britain, Europe and Asia. It was translated into over 60 languages. Published in Support of the Working Class Movement Library, 51 The Crescent, Salford, M5 4WX.
