    Madame Justice is to a typical murder mystery what a Hitchcock film is to an average horror movie. That is, nuanced, layered, and populated with talented and believable actors, at turns funny, poignant, smart and articulate, and all masterfully drawn. Indeed, Levy’s portrait of an extremely successful woman in an all-male club, wrapped up a mid-life love affair, and dealing with severe back pain and an aging father’s Alzheimer’s is almost alone worth the price of admission, and could’ve made a fine book even without the intrigue added by the mystery that lurks behind the story here. It’s the uncanny realism of Levy’s characters, of the inner workings of Washington—including the behind-closed-doors workings of the Supreme Court, D.C.’s opportunistic and often two-faced social scene, the bare-fisted politics, and the shadowy netherworld of extra-governmental agencies and “independent contractors” run amok that form the backdrop of the mystery here, that make Madame Justice such a... More > page-turner. And like a great Hitchcock movie, the startling ending will make you toss your popcorn out of your lap. A masterful piece of writing and a great read, no matter how you look at it, as a comedy of manners, a dead-on portrait of Washington, D.C., and the Supreme Court, or a nail-biting thriller.< Less
