Things are finally settling down for Abdiel and Eden St. Jude. Eden’s gotten used to her gargoyle powers and shapeshifting abilities, and Abdiel is finally getting to know his long lost sister. For the first time in his life he is truly happy – until four of his friends are murdered in their own homes. To make matters worse, Abdiel soon learns that he has other problems. His foster father and his old teacher have both gone missing, and his adopted siblings are demanding his help in their search. Abdiel doesn’t want anything to do with his foster family. They separated him from his real sister and let him think she was dead for thirteen years. Abdiel can’t forgive them for that . . . but that doesn’t mean he wants them dead too. With everyone he cares about in danger Abdiel can’t afford to do nothing. His adversaries this time are the strongest he’s ever faced, but he has more to lose now than ever before.

Oct 12, 2010H. Fleming's "Demon's Nest" is the third book in the series. After reading the first two books I was very curious to see what kind of direction the saga would progress in. I felt it would have been difficult for Fleming to maintain the depth of characters, suspense and twists that were present in the first two books. The book starts off very strong and very quickly dives straight into the action where the books protagonist, Eden, and her brother Abdiel, travel to the ruins of an ancient demon's lair (Or nest) to save Abdiel's relatives who, up until this point, have not been revealed. During this time new characters appear and this is where the book really shines. Eden, Abdiel and Andre (Eden's possible romantic interest) exhibit a great hatred/love for the new characters that appear early in this book; and it creates great emotion and shows an entire new side to the characters personalities. Because the three of them have a different opinion of the new characters revealed... More > (Although Andre's opinion is usually very similar to Eden's) there is a very interest dynamic among the book which Fleming so vividly paints a picture of. I was not the biggest fan of Abdiel when he first appeared in book 2. When his past caught up with him and the revelations began in this book to so accurately capture the range and depth of emotions, not only from Abdiel, but range and depth of emotions from his sister, and her near-family, is very difficult to capture in words. Fleming has achieved it to near perfection, however. The rise in emotion and tension escalates as more and more characters jump into the fray. All the while the group, which contains mixed emotions ranging from Abdiel's loving father, to Eden's severe disgust at him, are forced to fight the toughest battle of their lives. I would say this is the best book of the series, but the previous two are essential reads as well. If I had any criticisms of the book I would say I would have liked the ending battle to be built up a little bit longer than it was. Although, it seems it might be what I want it to be in the next iteration. I give this book 5 stars on the basis it offers a fantastic emotional roller coaster journey and fast paced action. Eagerly awaiting the next one!< Less
