"A very moving story" Ms. Hiner has done a wonderful job here in creating a vivid and detailed description of life on the Nebraskan prairie during the middle of the 20th century. Additionally, despite the story's 1950-60s setting, Ms. Hiner has managed to make very real a theme still relevent today-that of the displaced and fatherless child. However, what makes this work truly special is the author's intimate knowledge of her characters. Each one becomes very real to the reader thanks to Ms. Hiner's thorough examination of her characters.
