Accrington in its Heyday

ByHeritage Publications

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Accrington in its Heyday is packed with over 100 drawings and photographs of the town, many of which were provided by the now closed Oak Hill Museum. They show the town and the people that made it as you’ve never seen them before. Accrington in its Heyday was originally released in 1928 to celebrate 50 years of municipality (this was a form of local government that no longer exists). It tells of the founding of the town and its roots in the Saxon period but concentrates on the town’s more modern history – in the 19th and 20th century. No stone is left unturned as the authors take the reader on a tour of the town and its people. Entire sections of the book are devoted to the founding of many of the now familiar public services for the town, including the police, parks, tramways, public baths, housing and education. The book is truly a fascinating read for anybody who has ever wondered about the history of Accrington.
