A New History of Elborow School, Rugby, 1707-1960
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
This 2nd Edition of the narrative history remains a tribute to past teachers & pupils, especially to Mr Swaab, the headmaster who produced “A Short History of Elborow School” in 1954, but now includes the early career of Headmaster, Mr. Simmonds, as well as personal reminiscences of life at school in the 1930s. An additional Appendix describes the history of the Elborow Mission and St. Philip’s Church, and an Index is now provided. Richard Elborowe's life is described in detail, including his relationship with his nephew, the Naturalist, James Pettiver. The 250-year history of the School includes the changes in Staff and teaching methods over time, and the pupils are not forgotten: their lessons, sporting and academic achievements, even an heroic exploit, are included, being interspersed with local events and personal memoirs of past pupils. Another Appendix gives biographies of Rugby notaries who went to Elborow. The book should appeal to those interested in Rugby History as well as Elborow School.
