Elborow School and the Great War

ByHoward Trillo

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
The discovery of an image of the Elborow Memorial Plaque (sadly, not the Plaque itself) inspired the writing of this book about the impact of the First World War on Elborow School, Rugby, a school which in 1914 was at a ‘high point’ in terms of its academic and sporting performance. However, like every other aspect of life in Britain and elsewhere, the Great War changed Elborow forever – it was, literally, “never the same again,” This book is about the young men, Old Boys of Elborow School, who were mobilised, or enlisted, in 1914 and thereafter, and the boys still at school who contributed to the ‘war effort’ either as ordinary pupils/citizens or as members of the 16th Rugby (Elborow) Scout Troop, whose history, along with Rugby scouting in general in these years, is covered in some detail. Many of those Old Boys, of course, never returned home from Flanders Fields or elsewhere, and it is to those boys that this book is dedicated.
