The Trillowes of Chastleton - a medieval Oxfordshire family

A comprehensive history of the Trillowe family, based at Chastleton, Oxfordshire, illuminating the world of the minor gentry of the 14th Century. The book focusses on the family's establishment at Chastleton manor by 1302 and its subsequent fortunes until 1445. Ostensibly the story of the minor gentry, neverthelss 'national' figures (e.g. the earls of Warwick) appear and show the inter-connectivity between the two social groups. Once more, the importance of education via the Church and/or martial exploits on the field of battle are shown to be the keys to upward social mobility in the Middle Ages.
